Endearingly named after the dainty night-blooming flower Telosma cordata, Ye Lai Xiang is a floral-forward Feng Huang Dan Cong cultivar. This Spring 2023 tea from Xi Keng develops perfume, orchid, fruit, and gentle roasted-rice notes, with fine tannins, noticeable salivation, and a cooling finish that gathers at the upper palate. Its character moves between elegance and strength: aromatic and graceful, yet structured and persistent.

This vintage
Xi Keng - Spring 2023
Named after the night-blooming fragrance flower; more floral and less fruity than other Dan Cong, with a refreshing aroma layered deep yet erupting.
A floral, refreshing Dan Cong with grassy and woodsy undertones. Ye Lai Xiang is less overtly fruity than many Feng Huang cultivars; its appeal is a thicker, layered flower aroma that continues through the finish.
The making
Ye Lai Xiang follows the classic Feng Huang Dan Cong sequence: the leaves are withered, then repeatedly disturbed and rested during Lan Qing to build aroma and controlled fermentation. They are subsequently kill-greened, rolled, dried and roasted to set the tea’s layered floral character.

History & significance
Ye Lai Xiang means “Night Fragrance,” a name shared with the intensely aromatic Telosma cordata flower. The cultivar’s identity rests on fragrance rather than overt fruitiness, placing it among the distinctive single-cultivar expressions of Feng Huang Dan Cong.

A Connoisseur's Note
